The Story Behind the Butcher

When you visit our store you’ll probably think, “Wow, this is big?”Tio Top Butchers
But it wasn’t always this way. In fact, like most family businesses, Tip Top Wholesale Butchers started from humble beginnings in the shape of a small butcher shop established by Rino De Bortoli (an Italian Immigrant) in Lygon St Carlton in the 1960’s.

In the 1970’s the shop moved to Paisley St Footscray where it quickly became the local favourite amongst the Italian community. Word of mouth continued to grow Rino’s Butcher Shop, drawing more and more family members into its ownership and management, until it became the largest and busiest in the Western Suburbs.

In 1999 sons Paul and Carlo planned further expansions for the business resulting in the establishment of a Wholesale Butcher Outlet in Buckley St Footscray in 2000.

But it wasn’t going to stop there. Customer demand for the famous De Bortoli brand of personalised customer service and quality meats meant sons, Carlo and Paul had to start looking elsewhere for new and larger premises.

This move resulted in what you see today. A state of the art, 5500 sq m meat processing facility that’s unmatched in Victoria. It’s big, it’s clean and unbelievably modern but don’t be fooled – it’s traditional in every sense of the word.
